Machine Shop Junior Technician

Overall purpose of role
Gentry Restorations Engineering is seeking a motivated Junior Machine Shop Technician to join our growing engineering team. This is an entry-level role, ideal for someone with a basic mechanical interest or background who is keen to develop hands-on skills in a precision engineering environment.
The successful candidate will work as an assistant within the machine shop, supporting daily CNC machining operations and helping to inspect and assess the general condition of manufactured parts. Full training will be provided, with opportunities to develop skills in CNC machining, quality control, and general workshop practices.
This role suits someone with a practical mindset, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn within a specialist engineering and restoration business.
This is a full-time, workshop-based position, working Monday to Friday (excluding bank and national holidays).
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with the setup and running of CNC machines
- Supporting machinists with day-to-day machine shop operations
- Checking finished components for general condition, accuracy, and quality
- Handling parts safely and carefully, particularly precision or bespoke items
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working environment
- Learning to read basic engineering drawings and specifications
- Supporting general workshop tasks as required
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Basic mechanical knowledge or interest (education, hobby, or work-based)
- Familiarity with hand tools or workshop environments
- Willingness to learn CNC machining processes
- Basic understanding of measurements and tolerances (training provided)
